How to Lose Weight and Breastfeed?



Most women desire to lose weight post pregnancy but sometime having a hard time doing so. However, many new mothers also want to know how diet, exercise and a weight loss program will affect their ability to effectively breastfeed their baby.

I’ve always believe if it took you 9 months to gain it, then you can as well give it extra 9 month to get rid of it.

Report had shown that the average weight gained during pregnancy amounts to about 25 pounds. It is said that body weight to lose during breastfeeding is gained at the rate of about 1 pound per week. This usually starts after the third months of pregnancy of the ninth month.


Have no HIGH expectation of this quick weight loss diets and fads, as it could be detrimental to your health and of the child you’re breastfeeding. The last thing you need at this time is more stress, and trying to maintain your energy level and enjoy your new baby while you are acting your down normal nutrition is not a good choice.


Breastfeeding is the most natural and healthy way of nourishing your new baby. A mother has to eat double the amount of calories per day to sustain a high quality supply of breast milk. Losing weight could be quite difficult thinking of this statement, but it is very important to take caution at this point in time from eating whatever is in sight. By simply making sure you remain healthy, a moderate exercise can also be a way out.

Research has also indicated that regular moderate exercise may actually help milk production. But as always in the face of particular circumstances check your doctor first. The suggested exercises by the experts include: walking, gardening, dancing, laundry and other light home chores are good for you to at least initiate additional weight to lose.

Don't expect the weight to just drop off, it takes time we all know that, but by following these basic advice you will be heading in the right direction to a slimmer you.
